Maureen Elizabeth Currie, 99, of Columbus, died at 4:58 am on January 1, 2024. She would have been 100 years old on June 22.
She was born June 22, 1924, in Leeds, England, and moved to Belfast, Northern Ireland at the age of 6 weeks. She was the daughter of John (Jack) and Adela (Dolly) Clark. She married L. Clifford Currie on September 1, 1945 in Belfast.
During WWII, she worked for her father’s tailoring company where uniforms were made for the British Army. She was an avid knitter and also knit socks for the army.
In 1954 she immigrated with her husband and 2 daughters to Toronto, Canada and in 1957 they immigrated to Connersville, Indiana where she had her 3rd daughter. They lived there until 1964 when they moved to Columbus, Indiana.
She attended and was active in Fairlawn Presbyterian Church where she had been a member since 1965. She loved to knit, sew and embroider. She was a founding member of the Cosmopolitan Club which is a club for foreign-born women that is still active today. She was a grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother.
She is survived by 3 daughters, Linda (Stan) Murray, June (Denny) Poulsen and Robin (Greg) George; 5 grandchildren, Sean (Rena) Murray, Christopher (Amy) Murray, Ryan (Hayley) Murray, Heather (Rick) Milborn and Shelby (Cortland) Etgen; 11 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by several nieces, and nephews in Northern Ireland, England, Italy, and South Africa.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Cliff Currie, who passed in 2013; her parents; and a brother, Thompson Clark.
A celebration of life service will be at Fairlawn Presbyterian Church on January 20th at 1:00 with visitation following.

Maureen was a classy and delightful lady. Cliff and her were fantastic in laws. I will always remember the times we had together. May she rest in peace.
