Brian Banta, 63, of Columbus, died on April 19, 2024. After cremation, a graveside service will be at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 25, 2024 at Rest Haven Cemetery. Services will be conducted by Rev. Ronnie Hampton.

I remember Brian from 3rd grade, in Mrs. Nash’s class. My family moved from Edinburgh when I was in 4th grade, but remembered how nice Brian was to everyone. I saw a news story on him in The Republic some years ago and saw the young boy in the picture of the man. Rest easy, Brian.
Lit a candle in memory of Brian Banta
Always looked forward to seeing him at train shows. He was always so upbeat I never knew he was battling a long term illness. God speed Brian.
I will never forget driving across the bridge into Thurmond, WVa, and there sat a Corman truck. I said what’s the chances Brian was in it. I pulled up beside it and sure enough there sat Brian.
Also back in 1996 I invited Brian to ride in the cab of 2716 for our shakedown run to Gilman, Illinois. He was going to meet his ride at the first stop we made. Things ran so well we did not stop until the Ind/Ill border. We enjoyed every minute of it together.
