Betsy Joan Gehrt, 59, of Columbus, went to be with her Lord March 27, 2024. She was born May 4, 1964 in Columbus, the daughter of Ray and Constance (Moore) Gehrt. She graduated from Columbus North High School with the class of 1982 and went on to Indiana University with an emphasis on classical guitar. Betsy had a successful music career and was a lead guitarist in several bands. She traveled to Nashville to record her music that she wrote. People and friends in her profession spoke of her as being a guitar genius. She loved family, playing music, writing poetry and taking long walks in nature. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Betsy is survived by her 2 sons, Aaron and Byron Barger; sister, Susan (Brad) Criswell; nephew, Tyler Criswell; niece Sarah Criswell and several aunts and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents; brother Jeff Gehrt; paternal grandparents, Frank and Wanda (Bahan) Gehrt and maternal grandparents, Cletus and Mildred (Milam) Moore. There will be no public visitation or service. A private celebration of life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to T.A.S.C., made payable to the Columbus Regional Health Foundation in memory of Betsy. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.   1. Betsy was a loving soul and can finally be at Peace with the Lord. I know she’s in heaven just singing and strumming her guitar for all the souls to enjoy! Sing and play away, Betsy!!!.

  2. Betsy was my closest friend throughout high school and those first college years away from home. We spent many happy hours singing and playing music together and I treasure those times the most! Susan, I want to share with you my heartfelt deepest prayers for your peace and healing from this tremendous loss. In my own heart, I know that Betsy is now able to share in the complete joy of offering her beautiful song to our Jesus and experience His unending love. ❤️.

  3. We were her pastors, Columbus Harvest Center, Columbus, Indiana. She enjoyed coming to church and being involved . She loved her sons and brought them to church. We got to know her parents and they were the nicest people you could ever meet. She loved her Lord and was a dedicated christian.
