Zacharias "Cricket" Newton

Zacharias "Cricket" Newton, 71, of Columbus, IN, passed away Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at his home. He was born on July 8, 1953, to Robert Amos Newton and Linnie Maude Moore Newton. After a fulfilling career at Cosco, Zacharias retired to embrace the simple pleasures of life. He was a man who found joy in the tranquility of nature, often spending his days with a fishing rod in hand, surrounded by the beauty of the great outdoors. A private graveside service will be conducted at Bethel Baptist Cemetery. Survivors include his sons, Jesse (Sarah) Bassett and Keith Bassett both of Columbus, IN; sister, Martha Newton Day of Bedford, IN; grandchildren, Kaitlyn Brown, Dustin (Paola) Bassett, Leta (Cody) Calvert, Haley Chapman, Kaleb Bassett; great-grandchildren, Jose, Besy and Leilani. Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Linnie Newton, and several brothers and sisters. Arrangements were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
