Charles Raymond Ward

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our cherished Charles R. Ward on October 15, 2024. Charlie was born March 21, 1940, in Columbus, the son of Carl and Elizabeth (Gillham) Ward. He married Jackie Julaine Shrader on July 21, 1962. Deeply mourned by beloved wife, Jackie Ward; daughter, Jill Ellen Huntzinger of Rogers, AR; son, Charles Michael Ward of Columbus; sister, Linda Fleetwood of Columbus; grandchildren, Heather Crowder, Nathan Huntzinger, Chanel Thompson, Dalton Ward, and Chasney Ward; great-grandchildren, Jaxon Crowder, Max Thompson, Charlie Crowder, Graham Thompson, and Rhett Huntzinger. Charlie’s love for flowers brought joy to everyone who drove by his house. Charlie had a green thumb and he loved working in the yard. Charlie was a devoted family man who loved his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Charlie was hard-working and dedicated. He spent 39 years at Cummins Engine Company and he was known for his passion for softball and basketball. Charlie coached Bitty Basketball, and women’s softball, umpired and refereed for over 20 years. Charlie left a lasting impact on everyone who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Elizabeth Ward and brother, Richard Ward. Memorials may be made to The Arc of Bartholomew County. In honoring Charlie's wishes, cremation and a private family celebration of life will be held. Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
