October 8, 1965 ~ November 9, 2024

Jackie Lutes Smith passed away peacefully on November 9, 2024, at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana in Columbus. Jackie was born on October 8, 1965, in Batesville, Indiana to James Lutes and Sandra Lutes Gibson. She was married to Gary Smith of Columbus. Jackie, known affectionately by her family and friends as a caring and devoted mother, is survived by her son Andrew Dewitt. She adored her nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews. Due to her small stature, she would get down on the floor and play with them when they were small. It is believed they thought she was one of them. She was a kind and loving soul who could make friends with anyone she met. She had a love for animals, especially dogs. Gumdrop, who passed away in 2023, was Jackie’s baby. She took her on daily walks at the park and enjoyed watching Gumdrop chase the squirrels. In Jackie’s final days she continued to talk to Gumdrop as if she was still here. She had a love of gardening and would plant a small garden every year and share with her neighbors. Harlow, Jackie’s great niece, loved to help her pick the tomatoes. Jackie is survived by her husband Gary, mother Sandra Gibson, son Andrew, sisters Linda Wood of Pasadena, California, Debbie Cooper (Chris) of Seymour, Kim Williams (Anthony) of Bloomington, Darla Hubble (Steve) of Nineveh, Jackie Ayers (Tim Jordan) of Columbus, brother Jeff Gibson of Nashville, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her father James Lutes, brother Kevin Lutes and sister Lori Radosta. A private graveside service will be held for the family at a later date. Memorials can be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana. Services entrusted with Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
