Edward Rue Spires, affectionately known as Eddie, passed away peacefully on November 19, 2024, in Columbus, Indiana, at the age of 84. Born on March 10, 1940, in Knifley, Kentucky, to the late Etsel and Violet Spires. Eddie was a very intelligent man who carried himself with a quiet demeanor but was well known for his wicked sense of humor and a spark of mischief that brought laughter and warmth to those around him. He will be fondly remembered for having a tenacious streak of stubbornness. Eddie is survived by his children: Lisa Cornwell (Dean) of Davidson, North Carolina; Laura Chrisp (Anthony) of Columbus, Indiana; and Mike Spires (Ginger) of Fishers, Indiana. He was a proud grandfather to Blake, Connor, Mason, Michael, Krystalia, and Chelsea. He is preceded in death by his grandson, Baron, who remains lovingly remembered by all who knew him. Eddie was also preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers. He is survived by one brother, George. Eddie was uncle to many nieces and nephews, with special recognition to Tammy Keller of Hartsville and her husband Roger. Their countless hours spent with Eddie in recent years, ensuring he never ran out of his beloved Coca-Cola, brought great joy and comfort to his later years. Eddie’s wit, strength, and cherished stubbornness will be deeply missed. His memory, humor, and indomitable spirit will forever be treasured by all who were lucky enough to know him. Visitation will be held on Saturday, November 23, 202,4 from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. in Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Following the visitation, there will be a graveside service in Garland Brook Cemetery at 11:30 a.m. Saturday with Michael Black officiating.
