Gerald Allen Caffee
May 29, 1948 ~ January 8, 2025
Gerald Allen Caffee, 76, of Columbus, passed away Wednesday, January 8, 2025, at AMG Specialty Hospital in Greenfield, IN. Gerald was born on May 29, 1948, in Columbus, IN to Alvin Caffee and Essie Stephens Caffee.
A proud graduate of Columbus High School in 1966, Gerald's strong work ethic and commitment to excellence were evident early on. His professional journey was marked by his significant contributions as a Journeyman Roofing teacher at Arsenal Tech in Indianapolis, where he shared his extensive knowledge and skills with countless students. Gerald's career in the roofing industry was distinguished, having been previously employed as a Forman at Hinshaw Roofing where he worked on several large projects that included some very tall buildings, and later as the owner of Caffee Construction, where he was respected for his leadership and craftsmanship.
Gerald's devotion to his faith and community was exemplified by his active membership in the Friendship Missionary Baptist Church. His faith was a cornerstone of his life, guiding his daily actions and providing a foundation of support and love for his family and friends. Even as his health declined, his faith in God never diminished.
To Gerald, his first job was to provide for his family, followed closely by his interest in building race cars. A hobby that combined his love for mechanics, his high intellect, and speed. The first drag car he ever built, he took to the NHRA U.S. Nationals competition. His eyes would light up as he talked about his latest project, and his enthusiasm was contagious. However, what truly brought Gerald the most joy was spending time with his family. He was a beacon of strength and love and was always there to offer support, share wisdom, or simply enjoy life's simple pleasures together.
Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Delbert Compton officiating. Calling hours will be from 11 a.m. until service time Wednesday.

My sincere condolences to the entire Caffee Family. I will always remember such wonderful memories and moments spent with Uncle Gerald and the girl’s, Sandi , Deanne and Suzanne. He was such an amazing soul with a heart so dear. Even later in life as I grew older, every time I would run into your Dad and Jean he would smile that unforgettable smile and hug me with laughter. I continue to always think of the Caffee Family each time I drive to Columbus glancing over still at his parents house. Remembering the visits we would make to see Alvin , and sometimes attending church there next door. I still imagine seeing him sitting outside. And as I travel back from Columbus home I also would see Uncle Gerald’s house and think of the time I got to spend with him and the kids. I will forever glance over through the field at his house and remember his smile.
My thoughts and prayers are with his wife, his daughters Sandi Jean, Deannie , Suzie, Cieria and all of his family that I have met and many of his close friends. May you find comfort and strength in the days ahead. 🙏🕊️️
