Virginia Ann Young
November 19, 1939 ~ January 21, 2025
Virginia “Ginny” Ann Young, 85, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and aunt went to be with her Savior on January 21, 2025. Ginny passed away peacefully at her home in Columbus, Indiana.
Born November 19, 1939, in Greensburg, Indiana, Ginny Collins was the oldest of Charles Clifford and Naomi Lynn Collins’ three daughters.
Ginny married Larry R. Young on July 7, 1956, in Greensburg. She and Larry moved around often in the Decatur/Bartholomew/Brown County area. During their marriage, they welcomed two children: Debbie and Virgil (“Butch”).
Always a worker, she started her first job at five years old at her grandmother’s restaurant washing dishes and cleaning counters. Later in life, she showcased that work ethic in positions at Flambeau, Osco Drug, Marsh, and JayC West Hill as a manager.
A caretaker at heart, she was always willing to help her family and friends in any way she could. She gave generously of her time over and over again for those she loved.
She loved animals! Over the years, she had pet dogs, cats, horses, goats, and even a pair of raccoons named Lucy and Ricky. Ginny even had the opportunity to help Exotic Feline Rescue Center with their tiger cubs. She was enamored with wolves.
Throughout her life she had many hobbies including gardening, cross stitching, playing euchre, and watching sports, including cornhole. Following her sports teams was a big part of Ginny’s life. She loved the Colts, the Pacers, and the Reds!
Ginny was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Barbara Sue Ramsey and Jane Wagener, her husband Larry Young, and her great grandson Lincoln Salo.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Keith) Meyers of Indianapolis, and Virgil “Butch” of Columbus; her grandchildren, Heather (Patrick) Deckard of Nashville, Jessie (Eric) Salo of Rockford, Michigan, Cassie (A.J.) Glubzinski of Lithia, Florida, and Heath (Morgan) Young of Nashville; and her great grandchildren Austen Deckard, Addison Young, Gemma Glubzinski, Ryker Young, Lynne Salo, Mary Salo, Evolet Glubzinski, Penny Salo and Athens Glubzinski; and many, many friends.
A burial memorial service will take place at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial contributions be given to the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Center Point, Indiana (efrc.org).

We are so very sorry for your loss. Prayers for all of you at this time.
We love you Bapa Dorry!
In the late 1990s, when I still lived in Columbus and volunteered at the Exotic Feline Rescue Center in Center Point, IN, I would sometimes have lion or tiger babies who had been rescued from undesirable situations. Since babies need fed frequently and I taught school Ginny would spend 1 to 2 hours everyday at my house feeding and nurturing these babies. She was such a blessing. I will miss you Ginny. Those were some of her favorite stories to recount.
