Gomti Narsinghani (June 1st, 1923 - January 23rd, 2025) Dhan Nirankar, Radhe Shyam, Jhulelal. It is with deep love and heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved “Amma”, Gomti Narsinghani, who left this world peacefully in Columbus, Indiana at the revered age of 101 years. Born as Gomti Amesar, she was a loving woman who persevered, defied the odds, leaving behind a legacy of resilience, kindness, and eternal love. It is not every day that we are blessed to celebrate a century of life. Amma’s remarkable journey was a testament of love & light and triumph against adversity even in the darkest of nights. She faced hardships from a young age, including the tragic loss of her father when she was just 4 years old. She was raised by her loving mother in Karachi and had fond childhood memories growing up with her sister and brother, eating fresh fruit, seafood, and camel rides when visiting her Masi, maternal aunt. She married Girdharilal Narsinghani, an only child with an enormous heart, when she was 18 years old. They started a family two years later with the birth of their first child, Ishwar, followed by the birth of their second son, Tulsi, four years later. Her resilience continued when she moved from Karachi as a refugee in 1947, carrying her infant and four year old son. Gomti and Girdharilal started a new life in Pune, India, where they continued to grow a loving family and had two more sons, Lachman and Prem, a daughter, Sheela, and their youngest son, Vijay. In 1980, with her family, she immigrated to the charming town of Columbus, Indiana. Gomti had many happy memories with her family in Columbus. Their Indiana home was filled with love, laughter, music and dance. She enjoyed playing carrom and card games, watching soap operas, reading books, and feeding the birds. Amma was an incredible cook, each bite wrapped with love and seasoned with warmth. Time gave her more grandchildren to love and nurture. In 1990, Gomti said goodbye to her beloved husband, Girdharilal Narsinghani, known to most as “Baba” and remembered for his captivating personality and generous heart. Throughout the years, Gomti watched her family grow with more grandchildren, her grandchildren's spouses and then great grandchildren. She was also adopted by many as their mother. Through each challenge, Amma showed us what it meant to persist—to face life’s trials with grace, determination, and love. Amma was truly one in a million. A brilliant gem, a rare treasure, no words could ever encapsulate the depth of affection and admiration we all feel for her. The simple word “Amma” carries with it a lifetime of love, memories, emotions, and lessons that have shaped us all. Amma will be deeply missed but forever remembered by those who had the privilege of knowing her. Her life was a testament to the power of love, kindness, and perseverance. Amma will always be a part of us and her love and energy will continue to be passed down from generation to generation. May her aatma, soul, rest in peace, and may we all continue to live by the example she set. Amma's legacy lives on in her cherished family: her children Ishwar & Pushpa, Tulsi & Shobha, Lachman & Meena, Prem & Jaya, Sheela & Ramesh, and Vijay & Mona; her 15 grandchildren and their spouses; and 18 great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward the love she imparted with every word and action for more than a century. Om Shanti
