Mildred Carol Kirk, 82, of Columbus, died at 7:46 p.m. on March 6, 2025 at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana. Carol was the daughter of Floyd Willis and Goldia May (Jackson) Chestnut. She married Larry Herschel Kirk on December 22, 1961. Carol was a member of Flintwood Wesleyan church. In Carol’s early years prior to her marriage, she became a licensed Cosmetologist. Later, retiring from the Bartholomew County School Corporation as a baker, Carol poured love into every culinary creation, enriching school days with the aroma of her delightful treats. She was a wonderful and talented cook and baker; especially her cobblers and noodles. When Carol wasn’t whipping up delicious meals in the kitchen, she was enjoying many family vacations and camping in Gatlinburg and the Great Smoky Mountains. She also enjoyed Gospel Music, especially The Kingdom Heirs, and sports teams Cincinnati Reds, IU, & Indianapolis Colts. The funeral will be at 1:00 P.M. Thursday, March 13, 2025 at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Wes Jones officiating. Calling will be from 10:00 A.M. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Flintwood Wesleyan Church. Survivors include children, Jeffrey (Melissa) Kirk, and Larry Joe Kirk; brother, Rodger Chestnut; grandchildren, Shelley Denise Kirk, Casey Leigh Kirk, Emily Nicole Kirk; and great-grandchild, Owen Jacob Fields. She was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Kirk; parents, Floyd and Goldia Chestnut; brother, Carl Chestnut; sisters, Helen Heshelman, Georgia Schooler-Swafford, and Darlene Biedenkopf Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.   1. Carol and I was related . We both graduated from Odon High School class of 1960 . Jim and Larry were friends before I met Jim. We visited and had lunch four are five times a year. Talked on phone often, talked to her after Larry’s passing. They would bring there camper Boggs. We would go out and visit. Larry always invited us to the Kirk reunion. Larry and Carol will be missed by all who knew them. Sue Phillips Allen
