Brooke Ann Chowning-Loy
September 13, 1965 ~ March 14, 2025
Brooke Ann Chowning-Loy, 59, of Columbus, passed away at 9:29 a.m. Friday, March 14, 2025 at Our Hospice Inpatient Facility. Brooke was born on September 13, 1965 in Columbus, IN to Duane Loy and Karen Helt Loy. She courageously kept her positive attitude, her laughter and her smile while battling cancer for the past ten months.
Brooke went to Columbus North High School and graduated in 1984. She was determined to go to college and with the help of her teacher and mentor, Henrietta Snively, graduated from Vincennes University with an Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood. After college, Brooke worked with, was loved and respected by many children and adults for over 25 years.
She began her career working at the Montessori School and at Children’s Inc here in Columbus. She then joined BCSC and worked at Fodrea Community School, Taylorsville Elementary School and Bright Beginnings at McDowell Adult Education Center.
Brooke grew up in the Quaker Church and to date was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and of the Fellowship Committee. Brooke was also very involved and stayed active with the Blast Homemaker’s Group for many years and the Versailles Indiana Lions Club for the past 2 years.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Larry Perkinson officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. -7 p.m. Thursday, March 20th at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Sandcreek Friends Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to Donor’s Choice of Charity.
Survivors include her mother, Karen Helt Loy; brother, David Loy; aunt, Kathy Helt Amos and uncle, Bill Helt of Newburgh, IN.
Brooke was preceded in death by her father Duane Loy in 2010.

Earl Eversoll and I grew to know Brooke after joining the Columbus Lions Club – we had fun working alongside her in our community activities until our small group closed and she and Kathy went on to the Versailles Lions. We remember her fondly, and are very sorry for her family’s loss.

Remembering today growing up on Georgetown Road by Karen, Duane, Brooke and David. What a great family and very dear friends. Brooke such a beautiful little girl who grew up to be a treasured woman who was loved by so many. Condolences to you Karen and David and family. Brooke, you will be missed.
