Alex Joseph Hasson, 29, of Columbus, passed away unexpectedly in his sleep on March 14, 2025, at his home. Alex was born on October 25, 1995, along with his twin sister Ashlee, in Indianapolis, to Robert Russell Hasson and Kimberly Jo Hasson.
Alex and his family moved to Columbus in 1999. He was a graduate of Columbus East High School in 2014 and was a member of the Olympians baseball team. Alex attended and was a proud graduate of the University of Iowa in 2018 with a Bachelor of Arts in History with a minor in Counseling. He earned his Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northern Illinois University in 2020. He was a mental health counselor at One Sensible Solution in Indianapolis, where he passionately counseled his clients of all ages. Alex loved all sports and was a lifelong fan of the Iowa Hawkeyes. He was a passionate reader and a huge history buff with a never-ending desire to learn. He loved traveling and golfing with his family and friends and loved playing online video games with his friends. Alex was a loving and devoted son, brother, and friend who was always willing to help out others in need. He deeply loved and was loyal to all who were a part of his life. Alex was a kind, caring, selfless, and generous young man with a heart of gold.
Alex is survived by his parents, Rob and Kim Hasson; twin sister, Ashlee Hall (Alex); brother, Drew; grandparents, Jerry and Kay Hasson, and Larry and Kenna Smock; many aunts, uncles, and cousins, and his beloved cats, Winston, and Grayson.
Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Wes Jones officiating, followed by a graveside service at Garland Brook Cemetery. Visitation will be on Friday, March 21, 2025, from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Bartholomew County Humane Society through the funeral home.

I was shocked to hear this news the other day. I am so very sorry for your loss. Alex was a great friend in high school. I have so many memories of us laughing over lunch or late at night with our friend group at the Hasson household. Alex was a man of character and truly a blessing to know. It is so very difficult to put into words the loss we are all experiencing now. When a loved one leaves us, especially far too soon, the emptiness we feel has a tendency to overcome us….please try to not let that happen. From my conversations with Alex and Ashlee in the backyard pool (nobody could understand what we were saying, but we sure did 🤣🤣💝💝), playing out in the yard for hours, and all the family trips taken together as the kids were growing up, these memories continue to fill my heart and make me smile. You will always be family. So maybe Alex was onto something all those years ago – I’m gonna pour myself a big glass of chocolate milk and see if that helps ease this pain that is in my “goose egg” and my heart. I am very saddened to hear about Alex’s passing; this is shocking. He was a kind gentleman, and I always appreciated our conversations at the Fountain Square office. His presence made me feel safer since he was one of the men on campus. Our group supervision felt like a safe space where colleagues could share their thoughts, encourage one another, and laugh together. I am grateful to have met Alex. May he rest in peace.
