Robert Stanley Macomber

Robert Stanley Macomber, 76, of Columbus, died at 7:10 p.m. on April 30, 2025, at Columbus Regional Hospital. Robert was born on August 21, 1948, in Glendale, California, the son of Wayne Leroy Wood and Shirley Louise Handy. He married Patty Jean New on August 21, 1995.
Robert graduated in 1977 and, at the age of 16, enlisted in the U.S. Navy. He was stationed aboard the USS Damato (DD-871), a Gearing-class destroyer, where he worked loading powder onto the gun mount. Robert spent two years at Norfolk Naval Base during his service, dedicated to his duties and serving his country. He was a member of the Columbus 1st Church of the Nazarene for over 10 years; he loved the Lord and enjoyed bible study. He also enjoyed collecting die-cast cars, taking care of his lawn, and loved to help his wife, Patty. Although he was stubborn at times, he was a good family man. He loved his children and grandchildren dearly. He will be greatly missed.
The memorial service will be at 6:00 p.m. at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Travis Stamper officiating. Calling will be from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. Monday, May 5, 2025, at the funeral home.
Memorials may be made to the Columbus 1st Church of the Nazarene (C1NAZ).
Survivors include his mother, Shirley Macomber; spouse, Patty Macomber; sons, Joseph (Dakota) Macomber, Jeff Macomber, Dennis Sloan and Matthew Sloan; daughters, Sheila Newberry and Michelle Macomber; sister, Terri Coffman; grandchildren, Callaway, Wendy, Annabelle, Noah, Ryan, Casper, Peter, Nicholas, and Jeffery.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wayne Leroy Wood.
Services were entrusted to the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.

I have enjoyed knowing Robert over the past few years. We were in the same Connect Group at church and shared our love for Jesus. I will miss seeing him.
I fondly remember the Sunday mornings Dixie & I would pick up Robert and Annabelle for church. She would run down the sidewalk to me. Great memories with Robert. A good heart and faithful servant.
