Clara E. “Cookie” Macy, 74, of Columbus, IN passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Cookie was born on September 21, 1950 in Columbus, IN to Dean L. Macy and Florence Marie Palmer Macy. Cookie dedicated her professional life to helping others as a paramedic, a role she embraced with courage and unwavering dedication. Her commitment to her work was not just a job but a calling, as she tirelessly served her community in times of need. After her employment as an EMT she retired from Doral. In her leisure time, Cookie was an avid fan of medical television shows, a hobby that mirrored her professional life and showcased her continued fascination with the field of emergency medicine. These shows brought her joy and a sense of connection to the broader medical community. Cookie also was loved by the many people she met while working during her retirement years as a dining room hostess at the local McDonalds, where she was a familiar and welcoming presence. Cookie shared countless conversations while serving the many friends she made over the years with both young and older customers. Her warmth and generosity of spirit made her a beloved figure within her McDonald’s community, and her absence will be deeply felt by the many lives she touched. Funeral services will be at 12:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 10, 2025 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Eli Johnson officiating. Calling hours will be from 10 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral home. Cookie will be laid to rest at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana. Survivors include her son, Jason A. Douglas of Columbus, IN; siblings, Richard (Darlene) Macy of Columbus, IN, Sheila (Kendall) Grosheart of Henryville, IN, Roger (Sandy) Macy of Louisville, KY, Lisa (Mike) Butler of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Brooke (Jacob) Cole, Tyler (Carla) Sipes, Paylee (John) Ertel, Jason E. Douglas, Heaven Butler, Cass Butler and Macy Butler; great-grandchildren, Freya Ertel, Finnick Ertel, Braedyn Cole, Maesyn Cole, Emersyn Cole, Griffyn Cole, Madelyn Sipes; nieces and nephews, Amy, Amber, Brandon, Amanda, Richard, Austin, Kensey, Angie, Cheryl, Lynn, Ally, Joe, Curt, Susie, Frankie and Bobby; several great nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, Connie Starr. Cookie was preceded in death by her parents, Dean and Florence Macy; son, George E. “Ged” Douglas; brothers, Larry E. Starr, Joseph D. Macy; sister, Savonna Hiten; and niece, Heather Macy.
