Michael R. Walters, 80, of Columbus, Indiana passed away on Wednesday, June 4, 2025 at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. He was married to Delores M. Walters for fifty years until her death in 2022.
Mike was born on September 27, 1944 in Columbus. After his service in the US Navy, Mike returned to Columbus where he embarked on a 30-year career in law enforcement.
Mr. Walters was a member of St. Barthlomew Catholic Church. He formed many lasting friendships through his favorite pastimes of trapshooting and golf.
He was also preceded in death by his parents Robert M. and Norma Colvin Walters, as well as his sister Carol Jean Acton.
In keeping with Mr. Walters’ wishes, cremation is planned. A private graveside service will be held at a later date at Garland Brook Cemetery. Father Chris Wadleton will officiate. Military honors will be provided by the Bartholomew County Veterans Honor Guard.

Mike was my softball coach for years. I’m sorry to read of his passing. He was funny, a great leader, a mentor and someone I respected. Spent many weekends at his house on the lake making memories.
