Julia Ann Souders, 84, of Columbus, IN, passed away Monday, June 16, 2025. She was born on November 1, 1940 in Hartford City, IN to Herschel Emerson Shrader and Melissa Fern Childers Shrader. Julia married Morris Lee Souders on April 4, 1965. Julia's academic journey was marked by her insatiable thirst for knowledge and a desire to contribute to society. She earned her Bachelor's degree from Ball State University and went on to secure a Master's degree from Indiana University. Her education laid the foundation for a life of meaningful work and impactful connections. Together with her beloved husband Morris, Julia ventured into entrepreneurship, co-owning a successful print shop in Bloomington, Indiana, named "Visual Image." Their business not only served the community but also became a beacon of creativity and hard work. Upon leaving the business world, Julia found her calling in social work, where she retired from Columbus Regional Hospital after 22 years. Her compassion and dedication to helping others shone through in her work, touching the lives of countless individuals and families. In addition to her professional achievements, Julia's passions extended to the culinary arts. She shared her cooking recipes with the world through "CookbookinaBox.com," a testament to her love for sharing joy through food. Her recipes will continue to be a source of comfort and delight to those who knew her and to strangers alike. A devout member of Grace Lutheran Church, Julia's faith was a cornerstone of her existence. Her involvement in the church community was a reflection of her commitment to her beliefs and her desire to serve. Julia also found solace and joy in the intricate art of crocheting, creating beautiful pieces that served as expressions of her care and creativity. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, June 24, 2025 at Grace Lutheran Church, 3201 Central Ave, Columbus, IN 47203 with Rev. Todd Riordan officiating. Calling hours will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Private Entombment will be held at Valhalla Memory Garden in Bloomington, IN. A live stream of Julia’s service may be viewed on the church’s website: www.gracecolumbus.org. Memorial contributions may be made to CRH Foundation, Memo Line: Mental Health. Survivors include her husband, Morris Lee Souders; children, Eric Lee Souders and Liane Elise (Bill) Souders-Sims both of Flagstaff, AZ; grandchildren, Cora and Ruby Sims, Violet Souders. Julia was preceded in death by her parents, Herschel Emerson and Melissa Fern Shrader. Arrangements were entrusted to Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home.
