Brenda Diane Shuffitt, 69, of Columbus, died the morning of Tuesday, September 23, 2025. She was born in Columbia, Kentucky on October 21, 1955 to Wilma and William Combest. Her family moved to Indiana when she was a child, and she began attending the Indianapolis School for the Blind. Diane’s primary vocation throughout her life was a childcare provider, she was loved by many and will be greatly missed by the dozens of children she cared for throughout her career. She is survived by her daughter, Megan (Franklin) Rains of Columbus; grandchildren, Lori Rains and Adam (Hilary) Rains of Columbus; stepchildren, Tony (Crystal) Shuffitt of Columbus and Barbara (Mike) Ramey of Noblesville and 11 step-grandchildren; as well as her sisters, Paula (Dale) Hayford and Sheila (Mike) Bowling of Freetown; and brother, Jackie (Jerry) Combest of Columbus. She is preceded in death by her husband, Delbert Shuffitt; parents, Wilma and William Combest; sister, Linda (Putt) Barnsfather; and brother, Billy Joe (Barbara) Combest. The funeral for Brenda will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 27, 2025 at Jewell Rittman Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. Friday, September 26, 2025 at the funeral home. Burial will be held at Garland Brook Cemetery. Memorial contributions can be made to Alzheimer’s research and the Indiana Blind Children’s Foundation in her memory. Services were entrusted to Jewell Rittman Funeral Home. You are invited to light a candle or leave a message to her family.

I know we done lots of things together especially shopping 😁 I miss all the phone calls, then coming to the nursing home- Whew that was so hard, I would go out and just ball my eyes out, now your gone 😭😭 I just don’t know how I’m suppose to go on , you were like a second mom to me- I love you so much 🥰 I am so happy you can see now, enjoy being with all the family & Jesus !!!!     • I sure will miss when the phone would ring and on the other end was, “Diane, it’s Diane.” And then she would giggle. What a wonderful neighbor and caregiver she was to so many children. Prayers for all of you!
