October 20, 1953 ~ December 9, 2025

Charles Henry "Chuck" Heitman, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on December 9, 2025, in his hometown of Columbus, Indiana, at the age of 72. Chuck, whose friendliness and genial nature knew no bounds, was born on October 20, 1953, to the late Lyle and Ann Heitman and was later joined by his brother Steve, who predeceased him. Chuck found his lifelong love in Teresa Tedder Heitman, whom he married on Valentine’s Day in 1976. Their union blossomed into a family when they welcomed their sons, Josh, alongside his wife Gwen, and Jason, together with his wife Kaydi. As a dedicated and tender-hearted patriarch, Chuck delighted in the lives of his grandchildren – Evan Dorr, Amelia Bailey, Morghan, Kynzie, and Asher Heitman – who added joy and laughter to his life's journey. A proud graduate of Columbus High School, Class of 1971, Chuck's industrious nature led him to a fulfilling career as a Tool and Die maker. His skilled hands and sharp mind were essential to the success of Progressive Tool, Hartup Tool, and Cummins Engine Company. Before his well-earned retirement, Chuck dedicated his expertise to GE in Bloomington, leaving behind a legacy of meticulous work and reliability. Chuck was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, the Moose Lodge, and the Sons of the American Legion. His commitment to these associations reflected his belief in companionship and civic duty. Retirement afforded Chuck the joy of seasonal living, cherishing summers at Lutheran Lake and winters in the warmth of Florida's sun. No matter where he was, Chuck never missed an opportunity to connect with people, embodying the very essence of a man who "never met a stranger." Whether it was a joke shared with a new acquaintance or a heartfelt conversation with friends, his presence was a source of comfort and laughter. Those who knew Chuck will remember him as the epitome of friendliness, with a gentle soul and a knack for humor that brightened every room. He navigated life with an unmistakable grace and a smile that drew others in; a beacon of light in the lives of those fortunate enough to cross his path. Charles "Chuck" Heitman leaves behind a legacy of kindness, familial love, and the echoes of laughter that will reside fondly in the memories of those who loved him. As we say farewell to a man of warmth and humor, Chuck’s life story will continue to inspire us to live with open hearts and open arms, just as he did every single day. Services to honor Chuck’s life will be held at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service on Tuesday December 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Tim Carter officiating. Following the service, he will be laid to rest in Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery. Friends and family ae invited to the visitation which will be held on Monday from 4-8 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service. Memories Timeline

Guestbook

  1. We are so very heartbroken at the passing of our dear friend, Chuck. Our hearts are with Teresa and the family. We were blessed to have met Chuck and Teresa in Florida. Over the years, we have shared time together at the Campground, the beach, restaurants and visiting many places. We will always remember playing music for them, especially their favorite song, “You Look Wonderful Tonight”, to which they always danced in a loving embrace. Chuck’s laughter, wit and personality were always uplifting. His soft hearted spirit would sometimes render a tear. We consider ourselves blessed to have shared time with them and we will cherish our memories. You became our family. We are always here for you Teresa.
