Lonnie Lee Vojkufka, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on January 20, 2026, in Louisville, Kentucky. Born on May 6, 1946, in Scottsburg, Indiana, the son of Robert Eugene and Viola Louise Henderson Vojkufka. Lonnie gained a sister soon after, Linda Vojkufka Olson. They shared many memories together through their travels back and forth from California to Indiana as kids. Lonnie lived a full and vibrant life marked by service, creativity, and a deep love for his faith. Lonnie married his first wife, Jeanie Carol Lamb, on February 17, 1968. She passed away suddenly on March 31, 2000. Together they have 7 children. Lonnie married Barbara Lynne Cornett on January 6, 2001. Together they had 2 additional children. She survives. Lonnie dedicated 33 years of his professional life to Arvin Meritor, where he was not only respected for his work ethic but also cherished for his innovative spirit and ability to brighten the days of those around him. His creativity was not confined to his professional life; it spilled over into his personal passions as well. Lonnie loved being outside. His love for nature and gardening was well known to his family. You could find Lonnie battling the weeds with his various creative ideas. Many of these ideas didn’t work, which left his family in chuckles. Lonnie was a patriotic American that was honored to serve in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era. He was drafted by the Army, but his dad told him to join the Navy. Thankfully when he joined the Navy he was stationed with the Marines because he got sea sick easily. While in the service he operated as a Dental Tech. Lonnie would often share a story of how his life was spared during an attack in Vietnam. It was this attack that earned him a purple heart. A testament to his bravery and service to his country. The Navy taught Lonnie many things. He had his own unique way of doing the dishes. Lonnie’s style was one that a commercial dishwasher couldn’t compete with. He had several cycles of prewash, wash, rinse, and more than once. Despite the challenges Lonnie has faced in life, he never lost his faith in God. Since 1972, Lonnie was a devoted member of the Lighthouse Tabernacle, where his faith-filled life found a home. He would often share his testimony of how he found an altar of forgiveness. He was the longest-standing board trustee member of the church, 52 years, a role he took with the utmost seriousness and dedication. His involvement in the church went beyond administrative duties; he was a pillar of strength and support for the congregation, embodying the loving and creative spirit that he was known for. Lonnie wore many hats at Lighthouse Tabernacle. He was a devoted Sunday School teacher where he used his enthusiasm and creativity. He was a supporter of the foreign missions and the church building projects. He would give of himself even when he didn't have much to give, whether it was time or money. He was a true example of a giving Christian. You could always count on Lonnie being at church. It was only recently after his illness began to gain ground, and you’d find his pew empty. Lonnie's legacy is one of love, creativity, and faith. His presence was a blessing to all who knew him, and his memory will continue to inspire the large family he leaves behind. He was known to his family as Papper. As we say goodbye to Lonnie Lee Vojkufka, we celebrate a life well-lived, a life that touched the hearts of many and left the world, and his church a more beautiful place. He will be deeply missed, but the seeds of kindness and love he planted will continue to grow and flourish in the lives of those who were fortunate enough to know him. May his children and grandchildren never forget his dedication to his faith, his church, and his love for his Savior. He will now be dancing, singing, and praising God on the streets of gold. Lonnie is survived by his wife, Barbara and his sister, Linda (Edwin) Olson.
