Kathleen Marcia Peterson, 81, of Columbus, passed away on April 18, 2026.
Kathleen was born October 2, 1944 at McPherson County Hospital in McPherson, Kansas, the daughter of Ambrose Peterson and Dorothy Olson.
After receiving her Bachelors of Science from Howard University in Washington D.C. and becoming a member of the Howard University Honor Society, Kathleen became a registered dietician. Her dedication paid off and she received a certificate of recognition from the mayor’s commission on food, nutrition and health in Washington D.C. She also received the Mildred S. Bunton award for academic excellence and Outstanding Dietician from the American Dairy Council. She also attended Bethany College in Lindsborg, Kansas and George Washington University in Washington D.C. From 2002 to 2018 she became the program director of WIC; she also worked for the Congregate Meal Sites for Seniors and the Dairy Council of America.
Survivors include a brother-in-law, David Surface, Eileen Cowan Surface; brother, Victor Peterson; sister, Gloria (Charlie) Brown; nephew and nieces, Daryl (Michelle) Surface, Deborah (Norm) Pyle, Michele Yerges; great nephews and nieces, Zachary (Dani) Pyle, Matthew (Amanda) Pyle, Jessica Surface, Kyle Surface, Randy (Heather) Hess, along with Chloe, Logan, and Violet Yerges, great-great nephews and nieces Rowan & Wesley Pyle, Emry & Wilder Pyle, and Landon Surface.
She was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Thomas Dickerson and her sister Corinne Surface.

We are so sorry to hear of Connie’s passing! We knew that she had been ill & declining health. She was a very valued member of the class of 1967 Edinburgh High School. We will be sending a remembrance to the Alzheimer Foundation & will be keeping her family in our thoughts & prayers.
