Gregory D. Erdman, 69, of Columbus, IN, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 at his home. He was born in Parsons, KS on June 25, 1956 to Albert Dean Erdman and Shirley Lois Franklin Erdman. He married Phyllis A. Caudill on November 19, 1977.

Greg graduated from Columbus High School in 1974 and went on to earn a business degree from Franklin College in 1978. After college he worked with his father Dean for many years in plastic injection molding sales and eventually became sole owner of Applied Systems Inc. After selling the business in the late 1990’s, he continued his professional life in the automotive field, where he sold cars at Renner Motors and Hubler Honda. In every role he held, Greg was known for his honesty, his dependable nature, and the respect he showed to others.

Christian faith was an important part of Greg’s life. He was a member of Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, where he also held various positions over the years. He especially enjoyed leading the sound and video team and producing the weekly radio program. His church involvement reflected his devotion to fellowship, service, and the principles that guided him throughout his life. He valued the friendships and sense of purpose that came from being part of his church family.

Greg also found great enjoyment in amateur radio and was a ham operator with the call sign N9GDE and was also a member and Past Master of St. John’s Masonic Lodge #20.

Greg was a proud and devoted father and papaw to his children and grandchildren. He loved spending time with each of them, attending events, and getting involved with their hobbies and activities. They will miss him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2026 at Edinburgh Separate Baptist Church, 905 S. Main St., Edinburgh, IN 46124 with Pastor Danny Bailey officiating. Calling hours will be from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. Monday at the church and one hour prior to the service on Tuesday. A Masonic Memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. Monday at the church. Burial will be held at Rest Haven Cemetery, Edinburgh, IN.

Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Erdman; children, Jeffrey (Abby) Erdman of Greenwood, IN, Joshua Erdman of Columbus, IN, and Jenna (Jacob) Rutan of Columbus, IN; sister, Karen Pierce of Columbus, IN; grandchildren, Max Erdman, Claire and Chase Rutan, Anna and Andrew Erdman and several nieces and nephews.

Greg was preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Shirley Erdman and a daughter, Janelle Erdman

  4. Greg has been a dear neighbor who was always so friendly. We met his family in 1988 when we moved here and watch their children grow up. It has been so nice to hear them enjoy their swimming pool. Family gatherings are so vitally important to the growth of this nation. Praying that you continue to keep God close to your hearts.
