Hurlene Swartz, 78, Columbus, passed away May 7, 2026, at her residence. Hurlene was born on December 20, 1947, in Marion, Indiana, to the late Milford H. and Ruth M. (Todd) Smith. She married Grant W. Swartz, Jr., and he preceded her in death on November 4, 2016.

Hurlene’s life was rich with service to others, reflecting her love for her community through her work as a Nurse’s Aide. She and her husband also share the call to ministry. They pastored in Colorado Springs, Colorado; Vevay, Indiana; Edmore, Michigan; Clio Michigan; Elizabethtown, Indiana; and carried out missionary work in Haiti for the Pilgrim Holiness. Her hobbies, including crocheting, banking, and cooking were more than pastimes – they were ways she expressed love and care for those around her. Above all, Hurlene’s most profound commitment was to live for the Lord. Her faith was an integral part of who she was, and it shone brightly through every aspect of her life. She leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and deep faith that will continue to inspire all who knew her.

Survivors include her brothers, Milford Smith, Jr. of Logansport, Indiana and Roger Smith of Queen Creek, Arizona; sisters, Sarah Vancleve of Traverse City, Michigan and Rachel Hill of Washington Courthouse, Ohio; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Bair of Rensselaer, Michigan, Judy Johnson of Toledo, Ohio, and Sue Kerek of Queens Valley, Arizona; a host of nieces, nephews, and many great nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at the Jewell – Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m. Rev. Michael Frausto will officiate.  Burial will take place in Azalia Methodist Cemetery, Elizabethtown.
