Tammy was born on November 25, 1957, in Columbus, Indiana, to William Howard Crider and Cora Chena Coffey Crider, both of whom preceded her in death. She was known to family and friends simply as Tammy, and she lived a life marked by kindness, warmth, and a genuine love for the people around her. She was friendly, loving, and adventurous, and those qualities were reflected in the way she carried herself and in the many relationships she built throughout her life.

Tammy spent 40 years serving others as a server at Bob Evans, where she retired in 2025. Her long career was a reflection of her strong work ethic, her dependable nature, and her ability to make others feel welcome. She took pride in her work and formed many lasting friendships over the years.

She enjoyed traveling and embraced the opportunities to see new places and make new memories. Tammy had many friends, and she treasured the connections she made throughout her life. Her adventurous spirit and loving personality made her a joy to be around, and she will be remembered for the happiness she brought to others and the comfort she gave so freely.

Tammy is survived by her sisters, Beth Patrick and Pamela (Larry) Crider; her brother, William “Buddy” Crider and his wife, Jula; and her nieces and nephews, Billie, Marty, Scott, Megan, Jason, Michele, Shawn, Emily, Dustin, and Ryan. She is also survived by her honorary grandchildren, Oliver, Theodore, Aurora, Ember, Calvin, Baby Patrick, Jack, Jill & Jane Woods who called her Meme. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Larry Shafer; her sister, Terri L. Tomlinson and nephews, Matt, Michael and Jesse.

Tammy’s life was one of devotion to family, friendship, and the simple joys that made each day meaningful. She will be remembered with love for her gentle heart, her welcoming spirit, and the many ways she touched the lives of those who knew her. Her memory will remain a blessing to all who were fortunate enough to share in her life.

    • Tammy was one of the most goving souls I ever met. My husband and I actually met at Bob Evans where Tammy worked for so many years and have such find memories of the times we spent together. Tammy and I used to walk the streets of Nashville, IN every Sunday and I always struggled to keep up with her energy. Heaven just gained an amazing soul. We will miss you, but always remember “doe a deer a female deer, ray a drop of golden sun…” and we’ll play that video of you and Richard singing it over and over. You’re at peace now….enjoy your time up there ❤️Tina and Richard

  1. Aunt Tammy was the best. Every time she would pick me up from school back in first grade when Toys R Us was still open, she would take me and we would spend around half an hour checking things out and making sure I had an after school snack. She was the most kind and loving person I know. I feel good knowing she went out peacefully and comfortable. Aunt Tammy is in a better place now and she is being reunited with Uncle Larry and her parents. I am glad that she is being taken care of my the most caring people there are, Jesus, and God. I will sure miss her smiling face and her funny jokes, I know that she will definitely be taken care of by the people waiting for her. She was like a grandma to us than an Aunt, to all 9 of us. I will miss her cheers while playing all my sports even if she doesn’t know what to say It always made me feel good inside knowing I had at least one fan!

  2. Tammy, such a gentle, quiet, giving spirit. Always serving & helping, but never asking. That wrye smile… Little lady, you will greatly missed.

  7. A few words about my sister Tammy in a poem

    Simply called sis
    Sis
My second sister when brought into life
My second sister to leave us tonight
We know of the heart aches and the strife
But I want to tell the story of your light
Your kindness to others was so bright
And your smile was ever so wide
People and family were filled with pride
Because you always cared with nothing to hide
Your days of unselfishness and willing to help was just an everyday thing
If we think much about it our hearts begin to sing
That’s just how your kindness felt
One thing for sure it would make people’s heart melt
I think of the many things we used to do
The little things just me and you
Picking up jacks by two and four
Playing with army men on the floor
So many thoughts about you in my head
So many things about you could be said
You were done with God’s work I believe
So in God’s time you had to leave
I will miss you every day
And not let one thought get away
Now as I come to a close
I do hope you liked the words I chose
Again , you we will all miss
But I’m so proud to call you sis

  8. I’m so sorry I missed this! My heart breaks! She was so kind & sweet. So young. Rest in the arms of Jesus until we meet again!
