John Robert Runge, known to many as Bob, passed away on June 19, 2026, in Columbus, Indiana, at the age of 89.

Bob was born on June 11, 1937, in Columbus, Indiana, to Frank F. and Alma Runge. He grew up in Columbus and carried a lifelong connection to the community that shaped him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Frank M. Runge, and his sister, Mary Evelyn Mellencamp.

Bob graduated from Columbus High School and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree from Franklin College. He later received his MBA from Indiana University, reflecting the intelligence, discipline, and thoughtful approach that guided him throughout his life. He was known as a wise and analytical man, someone who considered matters carefully and brought clarity and steadiness to those around him.

Bob built a respected career in finance, retiring from Seymour Tubing after previously serving as a finance manager at Cummins and Arvin. In each role, he was valued for his professionalism, sound judgment, and dependable work ethic. His colleagues knew him as a man who approached his responsibilities with care and integrity.

Faith and music were important parts of Bob’s life. He was a member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he served as choir director and shared his love of music with the congregation. He was also active in the Arts Guild and the Madrigal Singers, where his appreciation for the arts found meaningful expression. His involvement in these groups reflected both his talents and his commitment to enriching the lives of others.

Bob also enjoyed giving his time to his family in practical and joyful ways. He volunteered as a swimming coach for his children and grandchildren, offering encouragement, patience, and support. He loved to travel and welcomed the opportunity to see new places and make lasting memories with those he loved.

He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Marilyn Runge; his daughters, Kristin Clancy and her husband John, Katrina de Moura Belo, and Joao Belo, and Korinne Eubank and her husband Tony; and his grandchildren, Maddie Clancy, Thomas Clancy, Amalia de Moura Belo, Elise Eubank, Harrison Eubank, and Adeline Eubank. He leaves behind a family who will remember his steady presence, his thoughtful nature, and the love he gave so generously throughout his life.

Bob will be remembered with affection and respect by all who knew him. His long life was marked by devotion to family, faith, music, service, and learning. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, wisdom, and quiet strength that will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.
