The following obituary has been written by the family of Janet Miller.

With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Janet Kay Saunders Miller Sunday, July 19, 2026.  Janet was born June 8,1947 to her parents, Arthur (Chic) and Lucy Saunders in Shelbyville, Indiana. She graduated from Waldron High School in 1965. She attended Business College. She worked for Mayflower Moving Co, then Irwin Union Bank in Columbus Indiana for several years. She spent 34 years working at Target in Columbus 1990 to 2024.

She married Ottis Miller on Sept 8, 1968, to this union there were three children, Scotty, Troy and Joddi. She was a volunteer parent at both Taylorsville Elementary and Northside Middle School. She was a model parent who cooked wonderful meals and had fun with her children. She was a crafter and made pretty things. She loved playing card games and going to Bingo. She especially loved her trips to the beach and the ocean. She loved camping trips when her children were small.

She was a Girl Scout Leader from 1987 to present: this was her pride and joy. She was Joddi’s leader until Joddi was old enough to lead then she joined her mom in Leading. They were both lifetime members.

Ottis became very ill with diabetes and cancer, and Janet was his care giver until his passing. She spent many hours in and out of the hospital caring for him. He passed Sept. 1, 2011.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, July 24, 2026 at Jewell Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory, with Chaplain Jonathan Bundick officiating. Calling hours will be held on Thursday, July 23, 2026, 4 to 8 p.m., at Jewell Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory, along with one hour prior to service on Friday.

She is survived by her children: Scotty Miller (Amy) of Franklin, Troy Miller (Karina) of Hope, Joddi Miller-Riggs (Mike) of Taylorsville. Grandchildren: Zach Miller (Taylor) of Franklin, Kayden Miller of Hope, Grandsons by heart: Frankie, Jayden and Kameron of Hope.  Great Grandchildren: Oden and Aspen of Franklin, Lilith Foley of Franklin, brother Steve Tevis of Shelby Co., several nieces and nephews.  She is also survived by a lifelong best friend Marilyn Banks. She is also survived by many from the Miller family, too large to mention by name and friends who are left to mourn her passing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers, Fred Saunders, and Eddie Tevis, sister, JoAnn Saunders-Hazelbaker, two grandsons: Hayden and Brayden, and nieces and nephews.

We will all miss your smiling face. I will miss my weekly phone calls. Rest in peace sweet Janet.

Donations may be made in Janet’s name to Diabetes Association, Heart or Kidney Foundation. Or charity of your choice. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Flatrock Baptist Cemetery.
