Lanny L. Knapp, 73, a lifelong resident of Columbus, passed away on Wednesday, August 5, 2026, at Silver Oaks.
Born in Columbus on November 25, 1952, Lanny was the son of the late Clarence and Imogene (Love) Knapp. He graduated from South Decatur High School and spent his career working hard to provide for his loved ones. He worked for a number of years as a forklift driver for Enkei America and was also independently self-employed in the HVAC industry.
A dedicated family man, Lanny was married to his beloved wife, Lillie (Patrick) Knapp, on February 8, 1996, who survives him. He was a long and faithful member of the Apostolic Revival Tabernacle.
Lanny was a fun-loving person with a great sense of humor who always knew how to bring a smile to those around him. He was a master at finding a good deal, frequently spending his free time exploring local garage sales and flea markets. He also loved taking peaceful, long drives in the country, collecting baseball cards, and relaxing at home with an episode of Gunsmoke.
He was preceded in death by his son, Matthew Knapp, and his brother, Alan Knapp.
Along with his wife, Lillie, Lanny is survived by his sons, Jason (Tera) Knapp and David (Taylor) Knapp; his step-children, Branda Shutters, Rachel Gill, Sarah Hardin, and Lindsay Hardin; his siblings, Dennis Knapp, Marty Knapp, Kerry Knapp, Sheila Helms, Karen Shera, and Troy Knapp; and many cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
According to Lanny’s wishes, cremation will take place under the care and direction of the Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory. A service to remember, honor, and celebrate Lanny’s life will be announced and held at a future date.
