John J. Breeding, 81, of Columbus, Indiana, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026. He was born on September 27, 1944, in Bartholomew County and was one of 13 children. At a very young age, John was adopted by Fredrick and Francis (Neeb) Breeding.

John attended Shelbyville High School and, following graduation, enlisted in the United States Air Force. While stationed in Germany, he met the love of his life, Karin G. (Wohlert) Breeding. The two were married on August 6, 1965, in Germany and went on to raise two loving daughters who were the pride and joy of John’s life.

After completing his military service, John began a career as a firefighter. He proudly served the City of Columbus for 25 years before retiring. In retirement, John discovered a love for antiquing. He enjoyed visiting local antique stores and estate sales, always appreciating the excitement of finding that one-of-a-kind treasure. Above all, John was a simple family man who cherished being at home and spending time with the people he loved.

John will be lovingly remembered for his devotion to his family, his quiet and simple nature, and the many years of love and memories he shared with those closest to him. His family will forever cherish the time they had with him and the lasting impact he made on their lives.

Bennett, Robert Bennett, John Bennett, Nellie Lemon, Barbara McKnight, Patricia Bennett, Paul Bennett, Donald Bennett, Velma Geilker, and Mary Doty.

He is survived by his daughters, Tina (Dan) Browne and Angie Breeding; his grandchildren, Amber Hargget and John James Breeding; and his great-grandchildren, Brianna, Ashton, Bailey, Rylan, and Delayni.
