Harold Lee Callahan

Harold Lee Callahan passed away on August 29, 2026, in Columbus, Indiana, at the age of 77.

Harold was born on September 17, 1948, in Charleston, South Carolina and moved to Athens, Georgia before the age of two. His family later relocated to the Columbus area when he was a teenager. He graduated from Columbus High School with the Class of 1966.

Harold was known as a dependable, steady, and hardworking man who took pride in doing things well. On May 8, 1978, he opened Callahan’s Auto Body, building not only a business, but also a lasting reputation for skill and dedication. Through the years, he became widely respected for his ability to build and repair custom and classic cars, and he found great satisfaction in each car he touched.

Harold had many interests that reflected his love of life and his appreciation for time spent with others. He enjoyed boating, water skiing, camping, fishing, cooking, NASCAR, and car shows. He especially loved daily outings with his dog, Charlee, and he treasured the quiet moments spent tinkering in the barn. Some of his happiest memories were made during travel adventures with his beloved Linda, and those journeys remained close to his heart throughout his life. He was happiest when he was working on a car, spending time outdoors, or spending time with family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda Lou Callahan, whose love and companionship were a central part of his life. Their 44+ years of marriage was filled with laughter, shared memories, mutual devotion, and many adventures together. Harold carried her memory with him always, and their bond remained an enduring part of the story of his life.

Harold is survived by his daughters, Terrie Hawkey and her husband Mark, Shannon Callahan, Tina Bell, Jamie Tymitz and her husband Kevin, and Emilee Miller and her husband Justin. He also leaves behind a large and loving family of grandchildren, Sarah, Brittney, Kyle, Erica, Sydney, Shelbey, Corey, Denny, Madelyn, Michael, Ethan, Lily, and Leo, as well as 16 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him great pride and joy. His family was the center of his world, and he found deep happiness in their presence, their accomplishments, and the memories they created together.

Those who knew Harold will remember his strong work ethic, his sense of humor, and his generous spirit. He was the kind of man who could always be counted on, whether for a helping hand, a thoughtful conversation, or a shared laugh. He leaves behind a legacy of craftsmanship, perseverance, and love that will continue to live on in the hearts of his family and friends.

The life of Harold Lee Callahan will be celebrated September 3, 2026 at Westside Community Church with visitation from 11am to 1pm and services immediately following. There will be a private family gathering at the cemetery afterwards. Any donations can be made to Our Hospice of South Central Indiana.
