Warren Edmond Rake

Warren Edmond Rake, passed away September 25, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and deep devotion. Born on November 8, 1935, in Muskegon, Michigan, he was the beloved son of the late William F. Rake and Maxine (Rose) Strickler. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1956. Following his military service, Warren built a fulfilling career as a computer programmer in the insurance industry. Later in life, he continued to serve his community by working as a dedicated food transporter for Meals on Wheels. On August 22, 1960, he married the love of his life, Doris (Grant) Rake, beginning a beautiful journey of over six decades together.

Warren was best known for his fun-loving, generous, goofy, and playful spirit. He possessed a vibrant energy, prioritizing keeping both his body and mind sharp throughout his life. An exceptionally talented athlete, he was a former State Bowling Champion in Michigan and spent many years playing racquetball, paddleball, and softball. He was also a passionate, lifelong fan of the Detroit Tigers and thoroughly loved challenging family and friends to his favorite game, Scrabble. Above all, Warren was strongly devoted to his family. His grandchildren and great-grandchildren were his absolute pride and joy, and he was immensely proud of each of them.

Warren was preceded in death by brothers, Frederick (Sally), Terrence, and Gerald (Lila) Rake.

Warren is survived by his loving wife, Doris Rake; his son, Bill (Connie) Rake of Tennessee; and his daughter, Betsy (Shannon) Swinehart of Columbus, Indiana. He also leaves behind his three brothers, Vernon (Doreen) Rake, Ronald (Carol) Rake, and Donald (Carleen) Rake; his five cherished grandchildren, Kristen, Kari, Danielle, Shaun, and Kyle; and his three adored great-grandchildren, Addison, Neil, and William; sister-in-law, Sandy Rake.

A private graveside service with military honors will be observed at the Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Madison. Jewell-Rittman Funeral Service & Crematory is serving the family.
