Melinda “Mimi” Walsh, 43, passed away surrounded with love on Tuesday, October 13, 2026.
Mimi lived a life that was far too short, but one that was incredibly full of love, laughter, friendship, and the kind of relationships that last past a lifetime.
Above everything else, Mimi was a mom and there was no role she was more proud of. Her daughters, Amaylie, Briella, and Andrea as well as Keagan (Holly) and Peyton (Jentry), whom she loved completely as her own, were her dream come true. Mimi didn’t just love her kids- she genuinely loved being their mom. Whether she was painting faces at community events, presiding over PTO meetings as president, or coaching her Schmitt cheer squad to first place on Cheer Day there was no place she would rather be than with her kids and their friends. She was fiercely proud of each of her kids, of the people they were becoming, and of the unique relationship she shared with each one. They laughed together, confided in one another, drove each other crazy sometimes, and loved each other completely. Mimi wanted to be part of everything- the big milestones, the ordinary days, the stories, the laughter, and even the drama. Her kids knew their mom was in their corner, always.
One of the hardest parts of Mimi’s illness was knowing she would not get nearly enough time with them, but she made sure the time she did have was filled with love. She wanted her kids to know how proud she was of them and, more than anything, how deeply and completely they were loved. So much of Mimi will continue through Amaylie, Briella, Andrea, Keagan, and Peyton- her humor, her strength, her beautiful smile, her stubborn streak, her love, and undoubtedly a little of that quick wit. Being their mom was the greatest privilege of Mimi’s life. She was endlessly proud of her kids, and the love she gave them will remain a part of who they are forever.
Mimi shared her children with their father, Nathan Walsh, an important part of the family they built together. His enduring love for Mimi was exemplified in the care and comfort he provided her when she needed it the most. She also cherished her granddaughters, Saylor and Riley, who called her Grammy- a title that brought Mimi such joy and gave her two more girls to absolutely adore.
Mimi had a close and loving relationship with her mom, Aline Meurer. Like any mother and daughter, theirs was a relationship entirely their own and they had an understanding that only a mother and daughter can have. Through every part of Mimi’s life the love between them ran deep and their bond was one that neither time nor circumstance could erase.
Mimi shared an incredible bond with her dad, Tim Pickens. He was so much more than simply her father, he was one of the people she trusted most, leaned on most, and loved most deeply. Their relationship was built over a lifetime, and there was a special connection between the two of them that was unmistakable to anyone who knew Mimi. He was always her hero, and she was always his sunshine. Tim was someone Mimi knew she could count on, and his love for her was constant and unconditional. She adored her dad, and he adored her right back.
Mimi was also deeply loved by Tracy Pickens, whom she lovingly called her “other mom.” Tracy held a special place in Mimi’s life and heart and was an important part of the family Mimi loved so much.
During Mimi’s illness, Tim and Tracy put their own lives on hold to care for her. They were there for the appointments, the difficult days, the long nights, and everything in between. They cared for her with a devotion that was both extraordinary and, to anyone who knew how much they loved Mimi, completely unsurprising. They made sure she was never alone and that she was surrounded by love, comfort, family, and friendship through it all. It was one of the greatest gifts they could have given her.
Growing up as the girl surrounded by brothers may explain some of the toughness, humor, and quick wit everyone came to love about her. Mimi adored her brothers, Steven Comer, Brandon Pickens, Charles Pickens (Missy), and Lucas Pickens. The bond she shared with them meant the world to her. She loved them fiercely and was incredibly proud of each of them.
Mimi also had a chosen sisterhood she cherished. Before adult life got complicated, six preteen girls found one another and somehow never let go. Mimi, Cami Fisher, BJ Finley, Kelly Worsham, Ashley Nading, and Ashley Elbert grew up together, laughed together, celebrated together, raised families alongside one another, and showed up for each other through the very best and very hardest parts of life. Their friendship became a living example of Proverbs 17:17: “A friend loves at all times.” They loved one another through all the good years, but when adversity came, they loved one another even harder.
As cheerleaders, they once lifted Mimi on their shoulders. Decades later, when she needed them most, they lifted her again- sometimes literally, but always with their love, strength, and friendship. Through every stage of her illness and even as her body grew weaker, they were there to help hold her up. They started out carrying each other as cheerleaders, not knowing how much they would carry one another through life.
In adulthood Mimi found Lindsey Vanzant and Abbie Andrews and quickly formed a bond built on faith, friendship, and love. During her illness, Abbie and Lindsey showed up for Mimi again and again, offering their time, their help, their love, and their friendship through some of her hardest days. Together with the many people who rallied around her, they helped make sure Mimi never had to face any of it alone. Mimi was incredibly fortunate in friendship- and her friends felt even more fortunate to have her.
If you knew Mimi, chances are she made you laugh. She was incredibly funny, effortlessly quick-witted, and could deliver a perfectly timed comment that left everyone around her laughing. She had a beautiful smile, unforgettable eyes, and a way of making people love her simply by being herself. Mimi graduated with her Master’s degree in Psychology from IU and began a career as a licensed counselor where she made a meaningful impact on the clients she worked with and their families.
The extraordinary amount of love and support surrounding Mimi during her illness was a reflection of the life she lived. People showed up because Mimi had spent a lifetime building friendships and relationships worth showing up for. She was deeply, genuinely loved. Her family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to everyone who donated money, provided meals and gifts, and uplifted Mimi through their prayers and support.
Of course, no story about Mimi would be complete without Paisley, Rusty, Benny, and Arlo. Mimi was the very best dog mom, and her four big, loyal protectors took their job seriously. They stayed close, watched over her, barked at plenty of people who probably didn’t deserve it, and protected their mom right to the very end.
Mimi faced more than anyone should have to face, and she did it with remarkable strength. In the end, there was also peace. Her deep Christian faith gave her comfort and the assurance that death was not goodbye forever. She looked forward to Heaven and to being reunited with the loved ones who went before her.
There will never be another Mimi. We will miss her quick wit, her beautiful smile and those unforgettable eyes. We will miss her laugh, her friendship, her love for her family, and all the little things that made her unmistakably her.
But more than anything, we will be grateful that we got to know her, love her, laugh with her, and be loved by her.
Mimi will live on in the people who will remember her forever — her children, her family, her friends. In the stories they tell, the laughter they share, and the countless ways she changed their lives simply by being part of them. She was loved far too deeply to ever be forgotten, and a piece of Mimi will remain with all of them, always.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Jeannie Weaver, Truman Weaver, and David Snelson; her aunt, Sara Snelson; and her cousin, Erin Streeval.

will miss my friend , one of the kindest people i ever met , i will never forget her smile
Gone too soon.
So sorry to hear about Mimi! Been a long time since we have talked but I remember the middle school days with her. Thinking of you all.
We were so blessed to have Mimi as a neighbor; she always treated our kids with such kindness and took time to make them feel seen. That was her gift; the ability to make people feel seen with her smile and a kind word. I miss our chats in our yards and the lightness she brought to all of our lives, even when she was battling some of the toughest days of hers. Rest easy, my friend. We know you’re whole in the arms of Jesus.
