Alberta Agnes Gatten Highley of Palmetto, Florida, formerly of Columbus, died on January 1, 2013, at 9:50 a.m. at Tidewell Hospice House in Palmetto, Florida. Born July 20, 1925, she was the daughter of Harley Edward Cain and Sereta Grace McGinnis Cain. Alberta married Paul Joseph Gatten on April 4, 1942. He preceded her in death on April 21, 2005. She married Archie Highley on October 18, 2008. He survives. Other survivors include children, Robert Louis "Bob" Gatten (Phyllis Jean), Karen Rae Gatten Taylor (Steven Lee), Paul Joseph "Joe" Gatten II and James Edward "Jim" Gatten; grandchildren, Monica Boespflug (Todd), Randy Gatten (Rosemary), Melissa Broderick (Rob), April Stinson (Ron), Heather Gatten, Zachary Gatten, and Jessica Gatten; 9 great-grandchildren; and 1 great-great-grandchild; and a niece, Sereta Ann Cain Churchill (Tom). Also surviving are 2 stepchildren, 8 stepgrandchlidren and 15 stepgreat-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her first husband, Paul Joseph Gatten; a brother, Morris Cain (Lois); a sister, Sereta Cain Sanders (Bob); and an infant grandson, Gregory Allen Gatten.
