Allen Thomas Hinkle
July 8, 1977 ~ July 10, 2021
Allen Thomas Hinkle, 44, of Edinburgh, passed away July 10, 2021 in Louisville, Kentucky.
He graduated from Unicoi County High School in Erwin, Tennessee where he was very active in YMCA youth programs and played trombone in the high school marching band since 7th grade. Allen received his Bachelor of Science degree from Tennessee Technological University in Electrical Engineering. He was very active with the campus radio station and played in the marching and pep bands.
During college, Allen met his wife and best friend, Rachelle. They had many adventures together, the most cherished of which were finally welcoming 2 beautiful children into their lives. Allen proudly wore his “Dad Established 2016” shirt as he introduced his son, Lucas, to the world and 5 years later his daughter, Renna.
Being from Erwin, Tennessee, Allen had a very strong affinity for his mountain upbringing and continued to have hobbies and interests that were developed during this time, including roller skating, off-roading, driving down windy and dirt roads, and story-telling. He still owned a 1978 blue Jeep Wagoneer that had been in his family for over 30 years.
Mentoring was a passion of Allen’s and in his continual quest for self-improvement, he uplifted everyone around him and shared his genuine smile and heartfelt compassion. Be it discussing classic Dr. Who, Transformers, Jeeps, the latest Mountain Dew flavor, his family, his faith, or just listening, he had a way of making everyone feel special and gave great hugs. Allen was an amazing father, devoted husband, loyal friend and an all-around wonderful human being. He was first in line to help a friend in need and always brought his enjoyable sense of humor.
He was very active in his church, a devoted family man, a wonderful father, an avid off-road enthusiast, and a trombone player.
Allen considered his church congregation an extension of his family and gladly contributed his musical talents and leadership. He was an excellent role model and enjoyed spending time with kids.
He was employed by Cummins in Columbus, Indiana where he was a valued employee and cultivated many lasting friendships.
The funeral service for Allen and his wife, Rachelle, will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday July 17, 2021 at Grace Lutheran Church with Pastor John Armstrong officiating. Visitation will be Friday, July 16th from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the church. Allen and his wife will be laid to rest at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.

The comment about the “latest Mountain Dew flavor” made me laugh but also brought a tear to my eye. Allen and I would share photos anytime we spotted a new flavor in the wild. We’d even share news articles about upcoming releases. This afternoon I noticed a new flavor while at the gas station. My immediate reaction was to take a picture so I could share it. That’s when it hit me. I’m very sorry for your loss. Allen was a very kind man and I offer my sincerest condolences.

Allen was a dear friend and wonderful human being. He took me on my first ever off-road adventure and I was hooked. We were band nerds together and there are countless stories that come with band family. The world is a darker place without him in it. I miss and love you my friend but I will see you again one day! My love and prayers to Clark and Maria, your little ones and all your family and friends.

Dear Clark, Maria and Hinkle family,
It is with deep sorrow that I heard about the passing of Allen and his beautiful wife. I never met her, but she sounds like a wonderful partner for Allen. I don’t know how things work in Heaven, but I’d like to believe that Bruce was there to greet Allen and that Allen was able to introduce Rachel to Bruce and maybe share some stories from the years together in Erwin.
I am praying that He who knows your sorrow will bring peace, comfort and healing to your souls.
With thoughts, hugs and prayers,
Carol Shawver

Heaven has received two angels , we will never forget the laughs and smiles you both have shared with us. Until we meet again my friends , God speed ❤️❤️🙏🙏
Allen was a valued member of our 4 wheel drive club-4 Wheels to Freedom. He was a friend to all of us and shared the love of off roading. He did a great job of watching the calendar and keeping us organized, thus earning the title of “Calendar Guy”. He will be missed but we are sure he is wheeling in heaven. Until we meet again Allen…
Oh Clark, this just sickens me to see this tragic news. You’ve been such a wonderful father. I clearly remember you doing such a fine job as you continued to keep Allen and Maria at Centenary after the sudden loss of sweet Barbara. Such wonderful, kind children. My heart aches deeply for you and Maria, Allen’s children, and his wife’s family. I’m absolutely certain Barbara was there waiting with open arms. I’m praying for you. God be with you during this most challenging time. I’ve always admired you and your family. Much love, Lisa Range
Clark, my heart aches for you so much. I can still remember the Sunday mornings, roasting marshmallows on the stove and of course taking the jeep to prom. I love you and am praying for the Lord to help ease the pain of losing such a wonderful son.
