On August 1, 2012, Arlis W. Fields, 79, of Columbus, went to be with the Lord and sing with the angels. He was born in Metcalfe County, Kentucky, on August 26, 1932, to Evan S. Fields and Loney Dee Shirley Fields. He married L. Lucille Romines on December 31, 1949. She survives. Arlis retired from the Golden Foundry in 1993. He was a member of Lowell General Baptist Church and was a well known Bluegrass Gospel musician. He loved music and enjoyed restoring lawn mowers and musical instruments. He is survived by his wife and children, Judy (Ron) Turnbow, Janice (Mike) Bright, Anetia (Larry) Taylor, Tim (Beth) Fields, Shelly Fields and Pam (Kevin) Day. He also had 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Buel (Velma) and Stanley (Doris) Fields, and a step-brother J.W. McCauley. He was preceded in death by his parents; his stepmother, Ira Mae Fields; a brother, Dennis Fields; an infant grandson, Nathan Fields; and infant great-grandson, Hunter Fields; and a stepsister, Angeline Fields. Thank you to Hospice of South Central Indiana and Columbus Regional Hospital for taking care of our Husband, Daddy and Papaw. So sorry to hear of the passing of Arlis. I only knew Arlis (and also Aneita) from playing music at Joe’s Pizza, and other bluegrass festivals a few years ago, but know he was truely a great Family Oriented and Christian man, as well as a great musician, whom loved to sing for the lord. Arlis will be sadly missed by all who knew him!

It’s been almost 3 years since you went home to be with the Lord but it feels like yesterday. I miss you more everyday. I miss your smile, your voice. What I wouldn’t give to talk to you again. I don’t play our music anymore, it’s not the same without you. I love you daddy and I wish that I had told you more often.
