Bernice L. Wood

Bernice L. Wood, 87, of Columbus, passed from this life at Miller’s Merry Manor in Hope on May 11, 2023. Bernice was the daughter of Carl and Victoria Newland Olmstead, born on February 19, 1936 in Columbus, IN. She married her high school sweetheart and love of her life, Donald Wayne Wood on April 19, 1954. They spent sixty-four wonderful years together and raised nine children.
Bernice loved shopping, decorating, traveling, puzzles, flower gardening but most importantly, spending time with her family.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, May 15, 2023 at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. Monday. Bernice will be laid to rest beside her husband Don at Flat Rock Baptist Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Association or Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana.
Survivors include her sons, Jeff (Rae) Wood and Matt (Jessica) Wood both of Waynesburg, IN, Tracy Wood, Troy (Jackie) Wood and Mike Wood all of Columbus, IN; daughters, Joyce (Mike) Crank of Hope, IN and Sandy (Jeff) Gassaway of Columbus, IN; 19 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Olmstead; mother, Victoria Davis; husband, Donald Wayne Wood on November 27, 2018; son Donald L. Wood; daughter, Loretta Ward and a sister, Brenda Sumner.
