Bernice Newmister, 97, of South Brooks Street, died at 2:52 p.m. July 30, 2019, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Bernice was born August 12, 1921, in Goldfield, Iowa, the daughter of Frank L. and Barbara S. Kline Weber. She married James G. Newmister March 18, 1941, and he preceded her in death November 1, 2010.
Visitation will be 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Friday, August 2, 2019, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Inurnment will follow at St. Mary's Catholic Church Cemetery in North Vernon.
Memorials may be made to St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital.
Survivors include her children, Patty Newmister of Columbus, Tom (Darice) Newmister of Georgetown, South Carolina, Judy Devening of Columbus, Donna (David) Hamilton of Titusville, Florida, David Newmister of Columbus, Jewell Tessier of Lake Charles, Louisiana, and Steve (Sherida) Newmister of Seymour; a brother, Bernard Weber; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; children, Mary Ann, James Michael, John Patrick, Linda, Lydia, Daniel and an infant daughter; and a sister, Helen Schonfeld.

Bernice was another mom away from home. Whenever I and other classmates of Tom stopped by their home, she was always welcoming whatever the hour. As the years passed and the kids left home, she was even more delighted to see you, to hear and tell stories.
