Bernie Alan Brown October 04, 1943 - November 01, 2008 Bernie Alan Brown, 65, of Family Drive in Columbus, Indiana, died Saturday, November 1, 2008, at 6:25 p.m. at his home. Bernie was a Navy veteran serving from 1961 to 1963. He was employed at Dorel and was a personal trainer and boxing coach. Bernie enjoyed body building and won the title Mr. Columbus and took first place in a southern Indiana body-building competition. He was a Harley enthusiast and enjoyed his little dog Barney. Mr. Brown was born October 4, 1943, in Edinburgh, Indiana, the son of Dillard Max and Winifred Thompson Brown. He married Joyce G. Pittman September 9, 1967. Survivors include his wife; a son, Tony Brown of Iowa; daughters, Deborah Pittman of Columbus, Indiana, Paula West of North Vernon, Indiana and Stacey (Jeff) Heath of Columbus, Indiana; a brother, Gary (Robin) Brown of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; grandchildren, Tina, Justin, Jeremy, Nick, Molly, Casey, Samantha, Gidget, Cory, Cole, Lacey, Noah, Ryan, Blake and Brittany; and five great-grandchildren. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents; and sons, Rudy and David Brown. Funeral Information FUNERAL: 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Tom Collett officiating and military rites will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. VISITATION: 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
