Betty J. Moffitt
May 20, 1941 ~ January 25, 2024
Betty J. Moffitt, 82, of Columbus, passed away on January 25, 2024, at Columbus Regional Hospital.
Betty was born on May 20, 1941, to Frank and Margaret Wheatcraft in Edinburg, IN.
After Betty graduated from Columbus North High School, she went on to marry Charles E. Moffitt. They were married for seven years. After getting married and having two children, Betty started working at Hills Department Store. She was there twenty-six years before they closed. She also worked for Pizza Hut for over 40 years. She was known as “Betty Boop” by her co-workers.
Betty enjoyed the simple things in life. You could find her sitting on the porch with her coffee most mornings. When she wasn’t on the porch, she was inside watching the Hallmark channel. Family time and her cat Max were the most important to her. She loved visiting with her sister, grandkids, and great-grandchildren and wasn’t afraid to get on the floor to play with them. She just needed help getting back up. Betty was always cold so it comes as no surprise that her favorite place to go to was the beach. Even in Florida Betty wore layers. You’d hardly ever catch her without her hat on. As small as Betty was, one thing she enjoyed the most was a home-cooked meal. She loved family cookouts. Betty could dance to anything but her favorite song was Rocky Top.
We will miss her sassy, sweet, fireball attitude.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Margaret Wheatcraft, her brothers Denzil and Francis Wheatcraft, and her son Roger Moffitt. She is survived by daughter Toni “Mandy” Miller (Moffitt), sister Barbara Harmon, grandchildren Brandon Moffitt (Amber Barnes), Zachary Moffitt, Logan Miller (Ashley Miller), Dakota “Jordan” Miller (Rose Miller), Malinda Moffitt, Roger “Daniel” Moffitt, Allison Moffitt, great-grandchildren Keenan Moffitt, Aiyanna, Bryan and Chloe Leap, Aviana, Emmett, Kiara and Raiden Miller, Lennon and Weston Miller, Kyra Moffitt, Athena Jenkins.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 3, 2024, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Rev. Connie Barr officiating. Calling hours will be from 9 a.m. until service time at 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Betty will be laid to rest at Snyder Cemetery in Shelbyville, IN.
The family requests memorial donations to be made directly to the funeral home to help with funeral costs.
