Betty Jean Baker Shireman April 07, 1933 - November 16, 2006 Betty Jean Baker Shireman, 73, of Doup Drive died at 1:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Mrs. Shireman was employed by Canteen Vending Service for 22 years, working 18 of those years at Columbus Regional Hospital. The company then transferred to Greensburg. After retirement she worked at Sears in Columbus. She also became an Avon lady and was a member of the companys Presidents Club for three years. She was a NASCAR fan, especially of Tony Stewart, and was a member of TOPPS and World of Pentecost. She was a devoted mother and grandmother to her numerous family and extended family members. Mrs. Shireman was born in Milton, Ky., April 7, 1933. She was the daughter of Smith Gearries, Ethel K. Cassity Gearries Noel and James Franklin Noel, all of whom preceded her in death. She married Alex Erwin Baker Aug. 28, 1948. He preceded her in death May 15, 1989. She married James Shireman Jan. 16, 1993. He preceded her in death Aug. 7, 2000. Survivors include sons, Jerald (Brenda) and Greg (Sandra) Baker, all of Columbus, Alex (Judy) Baker of Florida and Rufus David (Cindy) Baker of Edinburgh; daughters, Libby (Gene) Hays of Columbus and Beverly (Clay) Calhoun of Sunman; 15 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by brothers, Smith and Norman Gearries. Funeral Information FUNERAL: Will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Revs. Reggie Meeks and Dan Mitchell officiating. VISITATION: Will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday and from 10 a.m. until service time Monday. Burial will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
