He married Audrey J. Howard on June 2, 1956. Billie Joe lived his entire life in Bartholomew County and attended Columbus High School. After school, he worked for Ben Gates Service Station, Pure Oil Station and Don Fonner, Tatlock Gulf and John Arrington. He was employed at Lewellen Manufacturing from 1973 until the plant closing in 1985. He did part time work through DSI and the city of Columbus as a school crossing guard. He also worked at Kroger. He enjoyed people and was a NASCAR fan.Survivors include a son, Dwight A. Beatty; a daughter, Teresa J. Ross; Grand- children, Waylon L. Beatty, Dwight Alan Beatty Jr., Jennifer Anne Ross, Jeremiah Keith Ross, and Jacob Douglas Ross; Step-grandchild, Ashley Burton; Great grandchildren, Amberli Jenkins, Connor Beatty, Hunter Ross, Mya Ross, Jaxon Ison Ross, Jordyn Beatty; Step great-grandchildren, Austin and Caleb Whittington.He was preceded in death by his wife; and a sister, Helen Whittington.To view Billie's memorial video, please CLICK HERE
