Carl F. Urbahns, 71, of South Road 525E, died at 6:15 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 14, 2010, at Hospice of County Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Urbahns graduated from Columbus High School in 1957. Immediately after high school, he joined the Air Force, specializing in airframe repair. He was discharged in 1965 and worked in construction with his father, Carl H. Urbahns, for several years.
In 1972 he went to work for Arvin Industries and retired from there in 2004. Carl enjoyed traveling, riding his motorcycle (also riding with the American Legion Riders Chapter No. 250 of Mitchell), deer hunting, going to gun shows with his buddy Johnny O and being with his grandchildren.
He was a former member of First Lutheran Church.
Mr. Urbahns was very proud of being a veteran and was especially proud of serving as bugler and armorer of Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard. He was a 50-year Gold member of Camon Masonic Lodge No. 343 and a member of Columbus Yorkrite Bodies, Alice Court of Amaranth, Clifford Chapter Order of the Eastern Star No. 587, Robert A. Woods Priory No. 62 K.Y.C.H., St. Bartholomew Council No. 295 AMD, Marvin L. Isley York Rite College No. 129, Murat Shrine and Bartholomew County Shrine Club, High 12 Club No. 337, American Legion Post No. 24, Forty et Eight No. 1274, Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard and Columbus Moose Lodge No. 398. He also was a lifetime member of the NRA.
Born in Columbus March 21, 1939, Mr. Urbahns was the son of Carl H. and Mary Frances Klipsch Urbahns. He married Nancy Jo Roe Feb. 5, 1961.
Survivors include his wife; a cousin, Julia Hayes of Greenwood; grandchildren, Jessica Shane, Wyatt Urbahns, Killian Urbahns and Bradley Zane Urbahns; and a great-grandchild, Emilia Lucas.
He was preceded in death by sons, Brian Martin Urbahns and Bradley William Urbahns; and faithful friends George, his pet raccoon, and Pierre, his pet poodle.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: 10:30 a.m. Thursday, November 18, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with Marion Crum officiating.
CALLING: 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until service time Thursday. A Masonic memorial service will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday.
ENTOMBMENT: Garland Brook Mausoleum.
