Carmen Elena Mangas

Carmen Elena Mangas, age 95, of Columbus, passed away on May 5, 2025, at Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. She was born October 11, 1929, in Greenville, Ohio to Othello O. Ottman and Edith Marie Marshall Ottman. Prior to moving to Columbus in 2006, Mrs. Mangas and her late husband, R. Jack Mangas, lived in ten different communities. In an effort to become acquainted in every new place they lived, Mrs. Mangas involved herself in a church as well as service and recreational organizations. She was a member of the First Christian Church.
Carmen stated that her life was greatly influenced by a quote from Pastor and author Rick Warren: “The only happy people are those who have learned to serve.”
Carmen was blessed with a creative nature and was skilled in a wide range of artistic pursuits, such as woodworking, writing, sculpting, music, painting, interior design and couture-level sewing.
Mrs. Mangas is survived by three sons; Michael (Sharon) Mangas of Columbus, Jeffrey Mangas of Maple Lake, Minnesota and Steven (Janet) Mangas of Greenwood, IN. She leaves behind eight grandchildren; Russell Mangas, Benjamin (Alexis) Mangas, Joshua (Amanda) Mangas, Zachary (Donna) Mangas, Josiah (Sarah) Mangas, Alexandria Mangas, Chloe (Michael) Tillman and Phoebe (Jacob) Ritchie. She was blessed with 14 great-grandchildren, and one on the way. She is also survived by a sister, Roberta Ottman Rady of Lima, Ohio, as well as several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband of 60 years, R. Jack Mangas, her parents, a brother Horace Ottman and a sister Rita Ottman Callison.
Funeral services will be held at Noon on Saturday May 10, 2025 in Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home officiated by her son Steven Mangas. Visitation will be held on Saturday beginning at 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home. She will be laid to rest next to her husband in the Lisbon Cemetery in Randolph County, Indiana.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Mrs. Mangas memory may be made to: Our Hospice of South-Central Indiana or the Salvation Army of Columbus through the funeral home.
