Carolyn J. Compton, 78, of Smith Street, died at 4:50 a.m. December 12, 2017, at Our Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility. Carolyn was born March 2, 1939, in Columbus, the daughter of Fred and Catherine McGee Cookson. She married James A. Compton and he preceded her in death July 16, 2013. She was a member of Columbus First Church of the Nazarene and was employed by the Bartholomew Consolidated School Corporation as a custodian for ten years. The funeral will be conducted at noon Saturday, December 16, 2017, at First Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Brian Rogers officiating. Calling will be from 11 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the church. Inurnment will be at a later date. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Survivors include her sons, James (Nanette) Compton, Jeffrey Compton and Jerry (Linda) Compton; one daughter, Janita (Delbert) McCarty. a brother, Roger Cookson; sisters, Jackie Lambert, Barb Jordan, Bertie Ogle and Kay England; grandchildren, Michael (Kari) Compton, Sara (Cody) Maddox, Daniel Roberts, Alan (Nakisha) Roberts, Chrystal Compton and Amber (Tom) Perez; and ten great-grandchildren.
