Caryl Elizabeth Ziegler

Caryl Elizabeth Ziegler, 68, of Columbus, passed away at 3:25 a.m. Friday May 10, 2019 in St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis.  Caryl was born July 22, 1950 in Oak Park, Illinois and has been a resident of Brown County and Columbus for several years. She married Gary Ziegler August 22, 1969 and he preceded her in death on August 19, 2016. Caryl was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church and was a secular Franciscan. She was a longtime registered nurse and devoted in her work with the geriatric communities at Columbus Health and Rehab and Willow Crossing, where she retired. She and her husband Gary were avid quilters. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday May 17, 2019 at St. Agnes Catholic Church Nashville with Father Eric Johnson, assisted by Deacon Bill Jones. Following the service, she will be laid to rest beside her husband Gary in the Christiansburg Cemetery in Brown County. Visitation will be on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Vincent DePaul Society through the funeral home. Caryl is survived by her children, Beth (Christopher) Mohr of Nashville and Chris (Michelle) Ziegler of Paddock Lake, Wisconsin; brothers, Dan (Sharon) Vavra of North Pole, Alaska and Thomas (Cathy) Vavra of Mercer, Wisconsin and her grandchildren, Logan Ziegler and Celine Garczynski of Paddock Lake, Wisconsin. Caryl was preceded in death by her husband, Gary; her parents, Thomas Amos Vavra and Mildred A. (Enger) Vavra and a brother Marty Vavra.
