Chalmer Van Gilley

Chalmer Van Gilley, 67, of Coovert Street, died at 11:39 p.m., September 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his family and loved ones. He was born April 6, 1951, in Letcher County, Kentucky, the son of Londie and Lillian Banks Gilley. He married Pam Gilley April 9, 1988. He was co-owner of NC Tool and Machine Inc. where he devoted his life to ensure he could provide for his family. He was previously a member of Community Baptist Church where he was a deacon. Chalmer loved to fish and play guitar and was adored by his wife, children and grandchildren. After being diagnosed with diabetes in 1998, Chalmer faced multiple health issues. He continued to face one struggle after another, meeting each with an indomitable spirit and a smile on his face. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Friday, October 5, 2018, at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home with the Rev. Burdell Gilley officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday and one hour prior to the service Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Freetown Valley Home Memorial Old Regular Baptist Church Cemetery. Memorials can be made to the American Diabetes Association in Chalmer’s memory. He is survived by his wife, Pam; mother, Lillian Gilley of Columbus; daughters, Brooke Gilley, Cheyenne Gilley and Summer Gilley, all of Columbus; brothers, Roger (Sondra) Gilley, Denny (Amber) Gilley, both of Columbus and Keith (Trudi) Gilley of North Vernon and sisters, Jill (Tony) Garris of Elizabethtown and Jennifer (Danny) Fields of Columbus; a sister-in-law, Sandy Gilley of Columbus; grandchildren, Arydessa Gray, Lindel Gray and Amara Asher; and many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his father, Londie Gilley and brothers, Norshel Gilley, Ricky Gilley and Jeff Gilley.

So sorry to hear bout chalmer. He was such a good friend and guy.ive known him since 1974.sure was funny.good dancer.and loved to play games at tami harden house.him and tami would never show mercy to any of us playing .they would.set u back in a min.and laugh bout it.lol.i sure be praying much for pam his wife.children.and his mother and bros n sister.one thing for sure hes jn the arms of jesus.no more suffering.or sickness.with jesus.him and I were like brother n sister.juanita davis
