Chuck was born in Gratis, Preble County, Ohio on July 9th, 1932. He was married to Hazel Mae Longfellow-Houser from 1956 till her death in 2001. They lived in Richmond, IN and he was very active in coaching girls’ softball teams. He liked to bowl and travel. He belonged to the American Legion and was active in his church. He and his wife Hazel raised their grandson, Matt Houser along with Matt’s mother, Mamie. He was in the Air Force from 1950-1954. Chuck worked at the American Water Works in Richmond until his retirement. He met and married Virginia Grant on March 30th, 2003, and moved to Elizabethtown, Indiana. They attended Bethel Wesleyan for 6 years. Services will be at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, at Jewell Rittman Family Funeral Home with Pastor Gordan Tilley officiating. Calling will be from 9:00 a.m. until 11:00 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Donaldson Cemetery following the service. The Bartholomew Veterans County Honor Guard will be performing military rites at the committal. Survivors include his wife, Virginia, and 1 step-daughter, Rose Marie Cowen-Hartlage, 1 adopted daughter Mamie Houser-Colasante, and Virginia’s children, Todd (Kelly) Idlewine, of Ninevah, Debbie (George) Zimmerman, of Elizabethtown, Cathy (David) Summa, of Coopersville, MI and Julie Grant, of Elizabethtown; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the Bethel Wesleyan Church through the funeral home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Mae, his parents, and Virginia’s son, Dale Idlewine.
