Charles D. Rawlins, 85, of West Harvard Court died at 4:15 p.m. Monday, Aug. 22, 2005, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
Mr. Rawlins was born and lived his early life in Evanston, Ill. He attended Lawrence University until he joined the Air Force in 1943 and later earned a degree in television engineering from American Television Laboratories. He retired from Arvin Industries after 34 years of service.
He was involved with Boy Scouts of America, was a hospice volunteer for 25 years and was a member of Columbus Optimist Club, the Elks Lodge. He was an active member of the First United Methodist Church where he served on the Pastor Parish Committee and a member of the New Zion Methodist Church before joining Asbury United Methodist Church.
Born Aug. 12, 1920, Mr. Rawlins was the son of Edward W. and Frances Northrop Rawlins. He married Betty James Rawlins Aug. 12, 1950. She survives.
Also surviving are children, David Edward Rawlins, Jo Ellen (Alan) Watanabe, Jean Anne (Mark) Thayer and John Aaron (Sabrina) Rawlins, all of Columbus; and grandchildren, Brooke and Laura Anne Watanabe, Mark Charles Thayer and Erin and Charlize Rawlins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, John Aaron Rawlins; and a sister, Mary H. Rawlins.
