Charles Robert Johnson, 87, of Azalia, died at 9:20 p.m. Wednesday, June 29, 2011, at Four Seasons Health Care Center. Mr. Johnson attended North Vernon High School. He worked at North Vernon Processing in the 1940s and retired from Golden Foundry (Golden Castings Corp.) in 1992 after 42 years of employment with the company. He was a former member of First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon, Gospel Singers Quartet and North Vernon Lions Club. Born in Ripley County May 31, 1924, Mr. Johnson was the son of Samuel H. Johnson and Carolyn S. "Carrie" Stewart Johnson. He married Mary Marie McClain Brown July 25, 1965. She preceded him in death Oct. 24, 2009. Mr. Johnson is survived by a daughter, Darlene Johnson (Don) Lingle; grandchildren, Mark (Diane) Lingle and Mike (Cati) Lingle; great-grandchildren, Megan, Caleb, Jake and Maylee Lingle; stepchildren, Gloria (Ernest) Quicksell, Roger Brown, Shirley Doty, Nellie Sullivan, Leroy (Rhonda) Brown, Delilah (David) Leffler, Karen Brown, Tim (Diane) Brown, Yvonne Kilgore and David Brown; 29 stepgrandchildren; 35 stepgreat-grandchildren; five stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews, Kearney (Ruth) Johnson, Louis Munier, Leroy (Nancy) Munier, Betty Munier-Cook, Mildred Platt, Ruth Hall, Rev. Floyd (Peggy) Thomas, Marlene Meyers, Carroll Molenhour, Ben (Colette) Johnson, Gary (Jane) Johnson and Kathy (Stephen) Fassino. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Alice McIntire Johnson; sisters, Christina Thomas and Ida Hatt; brothers, John, Samuel and Benny Johnson; a stepson, Anthony Brown; a step-grandson, Bryan Brown; a stepgreat-granddaughter, Danielle Doty; and a stepson-in-law, Gerald Sullivan. FUNERAL - will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at First Church of the Nazarene in North Vernon with the Rev. Glenn Poynter and Dr. Randy James officiating. CALLING - will be Saturday from noon until service time. BURIAL - A private committal service is planned. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Gideons International or the donor's choice of charities.

Some of my best memories are of my Dad as I am sure yours are too. He was the one who always believed in me and made me feel special. That was a part of the service today. So many people had such nice things to say about him. He is in a better place. May you find comfort in your memories
