Cheryl Eileen Jewell, a beacon of love and generosity, passed away at the age of 64 in Columbus, Indiana, on February 7, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of warmth, creativity, and familial devotion. Born on September 25, 1960, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Cheryl's journey was marked by her unwavering kindness and the joy she brought to everyone she encountered. Throughout her life, Cheryl's actions were a living testament to the words of Mother Teresa, "Not all of us can do great things. But we can do small things with great love." This philosophy was evident in every aspect of her life, from the meals she cooked with care to the intricate stitches of the blankets she crocheted for her beloved grandchildren. Her hands were rarely still, as she found solace and joy in sewing, crafting clothing for her family, and working on puzzles that mirrored the complexity and beauty of life itself. Her creative spirit was not confined to tangible works; Cheryl's imagination took flight in her coloring sketches, which were vibrant expressions of her inner world. She was a woman who saw the canvas of life and chose to color it with the brightest of hues, inspiring those around her to find their own palette of happiness. Cheryl's heart was always open, and she was affectionately known as "mom" to many, extending her maternal love beyond the bounds of her own family. She was the matriarch of a loving clan, survived by her spouse Earl Jewell Sr., her cherished children Jennifer K. (Chad) Spaulding, Earl (Amber) Jewell Jr., Amanda G. Jewell, and Katey L. (John) Freed, as well as her 17 grandchildren who were the light of her life. Her siblings, Tim Spaulding, Linda Lucas, Connie Phelps, and Tresea Boyter, remember her as a sister who was always there with a listening ear and a comforting embrace. Cheryl's parents, Harry and Sharon Schaffner Spaulding, predeceased her, but she continued to carry their love and values forward in her every action. Those who had the privilege of knowing Cheryl would describe her as the embodiment of love, kindness, and generosity. She lived her life as an example of how to care deeply for others while also nurturing one's own passions and talents. Her spirit was a living illustration of the power of giving, and her memory will continue to motivate all who were touched by her presence. In her life, Cheryl showed us that the essence of our journey is not found in the grand gestures but in the quiet moments of connection and the small acts of love, we share. She inspired us to embrace each day with a generous heart and to find joy in the simple pleasures that knit the tapestry of our lives. A funeral service celebrating Cheryl’s life will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 12, 2025, at the Jewell – Rittman Family Funeral Home. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, and one hour prior to the service Wednesday. Cheryl Eileen Jewell's story is not one of sorrow, but a celebration of a life well-lived and a reminder that our true legacy lies in the love we leave behind. As we honor her memory, let us carry forward the light she shone so brightly, and in doing so, continue to illuminate the path for others with great love.
