Clara S. Clancy, 82, of Glenview Drive, died at 10:05 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 18, 2006, at her home.
Mrs. Clancy retired from Arvin Industries in 1979. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Columbus, and a former member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Asheville, N.C., where she was involved in sponsoring Vietnamese refugees. She was a volunteer with several organizations including Asheville Buncombe County Christian Ministries, the Columbus Regional Hospital Auxiliary, Laborers for Christ, and with Love Chapel.
She served in the U.S. Navy as a WAVE acting as a Chaplains Assistant during World War II. She was Bartholomew County Retirement Foundations Co-Senior Citizen of the year with her husband in 1994.
Clara was born on Nov. 22, 1923 in Fort Wayne, Ind., to Charles G. and Bertha S. Rodenbeck Kuehnert. She married Richard L. Clancy on Nov. 22, 1945.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Michael L. (Diane) Clancy of Columbus; daughters, Karyl L. Tormoehlen, Candace K. Clancy of Columbus and Pamela S. (Larry) Barker of Freetown; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Dorothy Schaaf of Fort Wayne, Ind.; and a brother, Gilbert Kuehnert of Woodburn, Ind.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Wilbert Kuehnert; and a sister, Hildegaard Menking.
Funeral Information
FUNERAL: Will be Wednesday, Nov. 22, 2006, at 11 a.m. at Grace Lutheran Church on Sims Drive, with Pastor John W. Armstrong officiating. Entombment will be at Garland Brook Cemetery.
CALLING: Will be from 5 until 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 21, 2006, at the Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home and on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until time of service at the church. A Military Service will be conducted by the Bartholomew County Veterans Color Guard at the Garland Brook Mausoleum.
